(Video) How to Register a Domain Name

What’s up Guys/Girls! Kevin Here! In this post, I wanna talk about how to register a domain name. First of all, What is a Domain Name?

Wikipedia defines a domain name as: An identification label that defines a realm of administrative autonomy, authority, or control in the Internet. Domain names are hostnames that identify Internet Protocol (IP) resources such as web sites. Domain names are formed by the rules and procedures of the Domain Name System (DNS).

WOW! Ok… That’s gonna sound a little complicated to the average internet user or internet marketing newbie….  Totally understandable!

Kev’s simple definition: Basically….. It is anything after the “www” and ends in “.com, .net., .info., .biz. etc..)

Domain names are however an important factor for SEO (Search Engine Optimization). The search engines favor “keyword rich” domain names.

What I mean by that is this is : If you are trying to rank high in the search engines for certain keywords (and you should be, because it’s free traffic)… It’s a good idea to have that keyword in your domain name.  Ex. Say you’re trying to rank high for the keyword “dog training” just for an example…. (very competitive niche btw) you would want something like: “www.dogtrainingtips.com”.. or “www.dogtrainingideas.com” or something with “dog training” in it.

Keyword Research needs to be done FIRST before registering a “keyword rich” domain name. The keyword needs checked for search volume and competition to make sure it’s worth registering or it’s pointless. Hope that makes sense.

Non-keyworded domain names are ok too to register! “Business name” domain names, or “product name” domain names are great examples.

OK. So.. you’ve done your research or you have your business/product name and you’re ready to register a domain name. Good! Don’t worry, its a piece of cake!

This video will walk you through the entire process:

And that’s it!
